Auckland Super Gold Card
Holders Enjoy Motat Free
MOTAT is giving Auckland region seniors over 65 the opportunity to turn back the clock and relive their golden days for free.
From 01 April – 30 June 2012, residents with a Super Gold Card living in the Auckland region can enjoy all MOTAT has to offer at no cost.
Jeremy Hubbard, MOTAT Museum Director, said MOTAT initiated ‘Golden Days’ to give back to a group that has been a valuable asset to MOTAT over the 48 years it has been open.
“Many Auckland region residents over 65 have a certain bond with MOTAT. A number have contributed objects to MOTAT’s vast collection and even more make regular trips to MOTAT with their children, grandchildren and friends. The input, knowledge and support that Auckland region seniors offer is invaluable to us and helps contribute to the rich history we have here at MOTAT,” said Mr Hubbard.
Visitors to MOTAT can take a ride on the beautifully restored trams and check out the new, multi-award winning Aviation Display Hall at the Meola Rd site. Home to many historic aircraft including a Lancaster Bomber, DC3, Cessna, Tiger Moth and RNZAF Skyhawk, the $18.5 million Aviation Display Hall is a great place to learn more about New Zealand’s aviation history.
There are a myriad of fascinating exhibitions to explore at MOTAT including 1950s themed ‘I Am The Last Tram’ and an exhibition re-telling the history of tea drinking ‘A Teaspoon per Cup and One for the Pot’ based in the Victorian Village.
Visit the Blacksmith, Printing Press workshop or Telecomms workshop on Sundays and chat with the many volunteers restoring MOTAT’s historic collection items onsite. Take a tour around the Pumphouse on weekdays or see the working Beam Engine in action on Thursdays.
And after all that excitement, enjoy a well deserved rest at Araroa Tearooms and catch-up with friends over a cup of tea and a scone.
“There is plenty to see and do here at MOTAT, so we welcome people to come on in and enjoy the Museum. There are endless activities for children, so we encourage grandparents to bring their grandchildren and families along for an enjoyable day out,” says Mr Hubbard.
“MOTAT will
be open on all public holidays during Golden Days including
Good Friday, Easter Sunday and ANZAC Day – so make the
most of it and get here!”
