Choices On Offer For Sunday Opening Hours At Library

ROTORUA 29.03.12: Sunday opening hours are on the horizon for Rotorua District Library and library-goers are being asked what hours they would prefer.

One of the proposals the council is including in its Draft Long-term Plan being released for public consultation next week (Monday 2 April) is for the library to open for four hours on Sundays.

If approved by the council it would bring Rotorua into line with most other provincial city libraries around the country, and would be expected to become a popular option for residents and visitors alike.

RDC library manager Jane Gilbert says in the meantime the library is seeking feedback on what Sunday opening hours would best suit local residents.

“Often Sunday mornings are taken up with church activities, while other people like to have a leisurely morning and late breakfast. So perhaps a later opening time, such as from midday, would suit them best.

“On the other hand, people may like to get into the library earlier so that they can spend Sunday afternoon at home reading or watching DVDs they’ve borrowed.”

Mrs Gilbert says it is important that the opening hours selected reflect the community’s preference.

Residents can have their say on which option they prefer by filling in a short survey at the library, via the library’s website at www.rotorualibrary.govt.nz or by emailing the library on Library@rdc.govt.nz.

The survey will close on 30 April 2012.
