Kiwis Captain Joins Selection Panel

Kiwis Captain Joins Selection Panel

Auckland, New Zealand, March 25, 2012

New Zealand Rugby League CEO Jim Doyle announced today that Richie Barnett has been appointed a national selector.

Richie will join Stephen Kearney (Coach), Tony Iro (Assistant Coach) and Tawera Nikau on the Kiwis selection panel. Howie Tamati, the previous convenor of selectors, is stepping down from this role due to increased work commitments.

Richie, a past Kiwis captain, acted as a selector for the Junior Kiwis in 2011. His first project with his fellow selectors will be to name the Kiwis to take on the Kangaroos at Eden Park on April 20.

Doyle said, “We are really pleased to have someone of Richie’s calibre join the selection panel, in his capacity as a broadcaster he has extensive exposure to the players and will be a great asset to the team. We look forward to working with him.”

He continues “On behalf of New Zealand Rugby League we’d like to take this opportunity to thank Howie for his service as Convenor of Selectors over many years. We look forward to working with him on an on-going basis on future Rugby League projects.
