Auckland Transport advises travel options for rugby codes this weekend

Auckland Transport is putting on extra trains for rugby fans and rugby league fans this weekend. Rugby fans can travel by train to the Auckland Blues game this Friday at Eden Park and rugby league fans can also travel by train on Saturday to watch the Warriors play at Mt Smart.

Auckland Blues vs Friday 23 March, Eden Park, 7.35pm

With the match being played on a Friday evening, there is potential for delays as people travel home from work and to Eden Park. People not going to the match should also be prepared for delays if they are travelling in the area.

Train commuters are being advised to travel early on Friday evening if they want to avoid busy periods as fans travel to Eden Park.

Trains and special event buses are free to all Super Rugby games at Eden Park with a match ticket from 4.30pm. All services are funded by Auckland Transport, the Blues and Eden Park.

Travel by train:

Trains depart Britomart for Eden Park approximately every 15 minutes after 4.30pm.

Travel by bus:

Free special event buses to Eden Park will run every 10 minutes from Auckland CBD, every 15 minutes from Newmarket via Mt Eden and every 15 minutes from Albany Station along the Northern Busway. Special event buses also run from Takapuna and Manukau/Pakuranga/Botany.

Parking:

Some roads around Eden Park will be closed to the public. Every effort will be made to ensure access for residents and their visitors, however, depending on crowd size and movement, access may be restricted at the discretion of Auckland Transport and the Police. Limited mobility parking areas are available on Cricket Avenue.

Vodafone Warriors vs Gold Coast Titans, Mount Smart Stadium, Saturday 24 March 7.30pm

There is no free travel on public transport with an event ticket. Normal fares apply.

Travel by train:

Additional trains will be operating on Saturday between Britomart and Penrose Station.

Travel by bus:

Regular Metrolink and Waka Pacific bus services operate via Great South Rd past the Penrose train station and 008, 009 Urban Express Crosstown services travel via Mt Smart Stadium. Normal fares apply.

Parking:

Limited parking is available at Mt Smart through Maurice Road entrance only. Otherwise drivers will need to park on surrounding streets, taking note that they have parked correctly, and walk to the stadium.

Passengers are reminded that alcohol is not permitted for consumption on any of these public transport services.
