Horizons congratulate outstanding farms
Horizons Regional Council wishes to congratulate each of the farms who achieved in their various categories at the 2012
Horizons Ballance Farm Environment Awards on Friday evening. The event, held at Awapuni Racecourse, honoured those farms
which have shown the environment can be restored and enhanced under profitable farming systems.
The supreme award was presented to Paul and Donna Edwards of Rangedale Station in front of over 200 guests. Rangedale
Station not only took out the overall prize, but also won the Dalrymple Habitat Award and the Horizons Integration of
Trees on the Farm Award.
“We congratulate Paul and Donna for their success at the awards. Rangedale Station is a testament to the notion that
environmental stewardship can be achieved while still running an economical and sustainable farm,” says Horizons
Chairman Bruce Gordon.
“It’s not only recognition these awards offer to farmers in our Region. They also provide valuable opportunities for
farmers, industry and the regional council to listen to the ideas of entrants and to learn from the different approaches
they take.”
Other winners on the night were the Morrison Farming Partnership of Marton who won the Beef & Lamb Livestock award and the PGG Land and Life award; Alistair and Margo Robertson of Farmzeal, Bulls who won the LIC
Dairy award; Jim and Lynette Galloway of Jala Enterprises, Eketahuna who won the Nutrient Management award and the
Margaret Matthews Sustainability Trophy for Commitment to Sustainability; and Grant and Diana Baird of Fairview Farms,
Kawhatau who won the Hill Laboratories Harvest Award, Waterforce Integrated Management award and the Massey University
Discovery award.
A field day will be held at Rangedale Station to show off their winning property. The date is yet to be decided but it
will be in May.
