Last night and this morning’s heavy rain and gale force winds have caused wide spread surface flooding in the Whangarei District. Roading information is supplied below. New information will be added in blue.

There is flooding on the following roads:
Ngunguru Road
SH1 Whakapara
Whananaki North Road
Matipo Place
Marua Road
Otonga Road
Kokopu Rd
Russell Rd (Punuruku)
Western Hill Drv ( intersection of Selwyn Ave) down to one lane
Riverside Drv ( intersection with Memorial Drv ) down to one lane
Vinegar Hill road ( intersection with Balmoral Rd )
Kokopu Block Rd
Pigs Head Rd ( intersection with Kaiikanui Rd )
Cotton Rd
Cemetery Rd
Mine Rd

CBD surface flooding - Otaika Rd, Mair St, John St, Powhiri Ave, Eden Terrace, Punga Grove, Meadow Park Ave, Denby Cres ,West Wood Lane
Otuhiwai Cres, Whareora Rd, Solomen’s Pt Rd, Glendale Rd, Kaka St, Lower Dent St
Mangahui Rd

There are trees or slips on the following roads:
Russell Rd (Helena Bay Hill)
Peach Orchard Rd
Kaiatea Road
Springs Flat
Mangakahia Rd ( Twin Bridges ) Slip

Pataua South Rd Slip
Kamo Rd Slip
Whangerei Heads Rd (at Waikaraka) Slip

Council contractors are assessing and where possible working to clear all main roads. The public is advised to avoid travelling in the affected areas today take great care on the District’s roads today and over the next few days.
