Weather delays Northland mail
19 March 2012
Severe weather and overnight flooding have delayed mail deliveries to large parts of Northland today (Monday).
High winds and heavy rain have resulted in flooding and treacherous roading conditions in the region.
As a consequence mail deliveries have been postponed in and around Whangarei, and in many parts of Kerikeri, Paihia, Kaikohe, Ruawai and Kawakawa. Many rural delivery areas will also not be serviced today.
"We apologise for any inconvenience - but with weather and roading conditions like this, it really is a case of 'safety first'," New Zealand Post spokesman Michael Tull says.
"We'll be keeping a close eye on the weather, and New Zealand Post staff are working hard to ensure we can catch-up quickly once the weather eases and normal deliveries resume," he added.
