A Lotta Wins For Lotto Second Division
19 March 2012
There were an amazing thirty-six Division Two Lotto winners around the country this weekend, although 12 of them were won by one person in a remarkable case of history repeating itself, says NZ Lotteries’ Chief Executive, Wayne Pickup.
“Last December, a winner won $8.2 million by choosing ten lines with the same numbers but all the different Powerball numbers, and this weekend’s big winner has used the same technique at the same store!” says Mr Pickup.
The team at Richmond Night & Day in Nelson, which has sold 30 First Division prizes, couldn’t believe it when they saw the Second Division results on Saturday.
“This winner had talked to us about how the Powerball winners had done it, and he figured it was a good plan. It’s great because he’s a regular, and this really boosts our lucky Lotto shop status too,” laughs co-owner/operator, Amber Smolenski.
“We’ve had calls from Picton asking if they send a self addressed stamped envelope to us, could we send them their tickets. Even my husband’s 90 year old ‘nana’ gets us to send her tickets to her in Dunedin every week!”
The 36 Second Division winning tickets win $10,740 each, with three of them winning an additional $21,056 with Powerball Second Division.
The multi-winner from Nelson won a huge $154,158 in total – and will be happy in the knowledge that his plan paid off.
