NZ Child abused to make porn video
According to the Daily Post a man appeared in court last Thursday on 16 charges relating to making, distributing and possessing child pornography.
He also faces a charge of doing an indecent act on a child.
The man, who is in his 40s and has been granted interim name suppression, appeared in the Rotorua District Court.
ECPAT Child ALERT, a child protection agency is appalled by this news. Director Alan Bell says “New Zealanders should be taking note of this charge. Here is a person in one of our top tourist towns charged with an indecent act on a child, recording it on a video and then distributing the images. This is not simply viewing or possessing illegal child sex abuse images (a crime in itself) – this is recruiting a New Zealand child as the victim and producing child pornography for others to view. Many people believe this sort of despicable action only happens overseas – this is proof otherwise.”
He entered no pleas to four charges of making child pornography, two charges of distributing child pornography, 10 charges of possessing child pornography and a charge of doing an indecent act. The offending is alleged to have been committed between October 20, 2010 and May 12, 2011.
His lawyer Andy Schulze said a mental health report had been carried out and there did not seem to be any hindrance to the legal process continuing.
Judge Jocelyn Munro remanded the man in custody until April 4 on charges including four of making child pornography; two of distributing it; ten of possessing it and one of an indecent act.
“If this man is found guilty I hope the Judge applies a very strong sentence” says Bell. “There is no room in New Zealand for this insidious crime to gain a foothold and we must take every opportunity to deter those who would offend against vulnerable children and against all the norms of our society.”
ECPAT Child ALERT is a registered charitable trust working to prevent the sexual exploitation of children.
