NZ's Driving Laws Explained for New New Zealanders
To help newcomers to New Zealand navigate the country's driving laws and conditions, Settlement Support and the Porirua City Council are holding a free one-hour workshop at Whitireia Community Polytechnic on Tuesday 20 March.
"Negotiating roundabouts, driving in wintry conditions, cycle lanes and changes to the left-turn/right-turn rule are just some of the peculiarities of driving in New Zealand. For people new to the country, our driving laws may be very confusing," says Porirua City Council Road Safety Co-ordinator Mark Kairua.
The workshop will include information about the new road rule changes coming up on 25 March, as well as driver licence requirements and car ownership.
"To keep our roads safe, it's really important these issues are understood by everyone in the community, so the presentation has been prepared using imagery as much as words, to ensure it's suitable for people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds," Mr Kairua says.
The workshop
runs from 10am to 11am, in Lecture Theatre One, to the right
of Entrance One, off Wi Neera Drive.
