Commonwealth Day Celebrations
Song writing will be at the heart of Commonwealth celebrations in Auckland tonight .
Students from four Auckland Schools are competing for the Commonwealth Diamond Jubilee Music Award. These talented students have had just under four weeks to compose music and lyrics for this years award.
The award theme is connecting cultures and their task is to create a piece which shows cultural diversity on one day in the last sixty years. The length of the Queen’s reign.
The competition is being judged at Auckland Grammars Centennial Theatre by British Consul General, Kevin Lynch and Royal Commonwealth Society President Leonie Lawson.
The competition winner and runner up will receive a cheque for their school music department and will perform their winning songs at the Lord Mayor of London's reception on Tuesday.
Commonwealth countries around the world will be holding events to celebrate Commonwealth week which starts today.
