Self Defence Project congratulates Wellington woman
The Girls’ Self Defence Project warmly congratulates the 21 year old Wellington woman who successfully fought off an attacker early on Saturday morning. “We are impressed by this young woman’s courage” said Project spokeswoman Alison Broad. “She obviously fought back with considerable effect so that the assault ended with the attacker running away. It appears she was also able to give a useful description of the attacker”.
The Girls’ Self Defence Project has taught self defence to thousands of girls in the wider Wellington area over the past 15 years, including over 4,000 girls in just the past 3 years. “We strongly believe in the importance of women and girls in our communities being taught how to keep safe from violence and abuse” said Ms Broad.
“It is of course appalling to hear of any attack on a young woman, but it is great when an attack is so effectively foiled. Our congratulations to the young woman concerned.”
