Crowds flock to day two of Ellerslie

Crowds flock to day two of Ellerslie

Crowds flocked to the second day of the Ellerslie International Flower Show in Christchurch today.

More than 10,000 attended day two of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest flower show.

Show Managing Director Dave Mee said the warmer weather and bright sunshine saw visitors queuing to enter the show this morning.

“Most visitors spent several hours on site and left with smiles on their faces and praising the quality of the exhibits.

“It was great to see so many people today and to hear all the wonderful comments about the gardens and all the flowers and colour.
“Many of those who I spoke with said the show had given them lots of ideas. They felt that the exhibits were not only of a high international standard but that they also provided them with loads of inspiration for their own homes.”

He says one visitor he spoke to said she had found herself crying looking at a couple of exhibits because of the hope they offered the city after more than 12 months of devastation.

“It is so good to have the Show back this year and to be offering so much hope and inspiration for the people of Canterbury.”

The show continues until Sunday. Tomorrow the People’s Choice Award will be announced at 2pm.

o The Ellerslie International Flower Show runs till Sunday 14 March and is open daily from 10am to 7pm, expect Sunday when the Show closes at 6pm.
