Ultra Fast Broadband expansion a boost to Lower Hutt

HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE

8 March 2012

Ultra Fast Broadband expansion a boost to Lower Hutt

Hutt City Mayor Ray Wallace has welcomed a decision by Chorus to expand Ultra Fast Broadband across Lower Hutt.

A total of 31 schools will benefit from the decision along with Seaview, central Petone and Lower Hutt areas.

“The focus of new roll out from July 1 this year is on education and our business areas which is encouraging. It will lay a solid platform for economic growth within our city.

“Council is working on encouraging development of a science and technology hub and the decision to include Seaview puts UFB right in the heart of where it is going to be needed most.

“UFB will connect Lower Hutt to the world at lightning speed and encourage new enterprises to populate our central city hub.

“Education is also an important focus and our young people will be able to embrace the new technology opportunities created by the presence of UFB,” he said.

“We are very fortunate as a city to be among the first within New Zealand to have access to UFB,” he said.
