Drivers advised to take care on roads due to severe weather conditions

Auckland Transport is advising motorists to take extra care on the road as heavy rain and strong winds are expected across the Auckland region between Friday evening to Saturday afternoon.

This raises the possibility of localised flooding and rising rivers. Over the same period, winds, especially in coastal regions, may add to the inclement weather.

People in these areas should watch out for rapidly rising streams and rivers, surface flooding, and hazardous driving conditions. Drivers should also watch out for damage to trees and power lines.

If you must travel, drivers are urged to take the following precautions:
• Check NZ Transport website for road travel information
• Headlights on
• Drive to the conditions
• Keep a safe distance from the car in front
