NZHPT launches new heritage tour of Northland
The NZ Historic Places Trust is about to launch a national first – a four-day guided tour of Northland’s premier historic places brought to life by an NZHPT guide who will tell some of the little-known stories behind early New Zealand.
The guide will travel on board the coach tour and provide fascinating commentary that will entertain and delight travellers as they explore Northland’s heritage gems.
“We’re excited about our first NZHPT guided tour of Northland – and we can promise people that they will experience a fun adventure like no other,” says the NZHPT’s Northern Heritage Destinations Manager, Gordon Hewston.
“Places are filling up, however, and people who might be interested in taking part in our inaugural tour need to act quickly.”
Priced at $999 per person and including all travel and accommodation costs – as well as meals and admission to heritage attractions, a cruise on the Hokianga and a visit to the Kauri Museum at Matakohe – the tour represents great value for money.
Heritage highlights will include a visit to the Kerikeri Mission Station, the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, New Zealand’s oldest working printery at Pompallier Mission, the country’s first European-style farm at Te Waimate Mission, and the site of the largest Treaty signing at Mangungu Mission in the Hokianga.
“Northland is blessed with a powerful combination of heritage, history and stunning geography – all of which makes exploring and learning about the richness of the region a special experience,” says Mr Hewston.
“Having a knowledgeable guide who will be able to give a ‘behind the scenes’ commentary into Northland’s history as well as insights into our efforts to care for the nation’s heritage will make this the trip of a lifetime.”
