Ami Round the Bays 2012 is a Sell Out!
For the first time in the 30+ years one of NZ’s biggest events , AMI Round the Bays is a sell out! This year the event has exceeded the expectations of Sport Wellington, the event organisers, and has reached 12,000 entries!
A limited number of Charity Runner entries are still available through the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research. These entries are a fantastic way for you to still be involved by ‘running for research.’ These entries are only available at Malaghan.org.nz/charityrunner.
Event Director Craig Ireson is ecstatic that the event has been so popular this year saying ‘We have had a great response to the event this year and are extremely proud of all of our team and sponsors for all the support we have had in the lead up to the event’.
To add to this fantastic news, Will Stewart, Athletics NZ Events Manager said ‘Athletics NZ is happy to announce that AMI Round the Bays will play host to the 2013 NZ Half Marathon Championships, bringing some of New Zealand ’s top endurance runners to the start line of next year’s event. We look forward to working with the AMI Round the Bays Events Team at Sport Wellington and the Athletics Wellington Centre through to the delivery of this Championship calibre event in 2013’.
Craig Ireson said ‘we’re delighted to be working with Athletics NZ in one of their biggest events of the year. Next year we are looking forward to making the event even bigger and better and can’t wait to see the response we get’.
The event itself will be a great day out with a full festival of activities planned, with live entertainment from Newtown Rocksteady, free children’s entertainment and BBQ sites.
You can also come and check out the elite talent with international and New Zealand athletes, such as Mary Davies, attending the ISC Lenco Half Marathon in training for the 2012 London Olympics. Olympic Silver Medallist Nick Willis will be attending as a special guest, but instead of competing he’ll be eying the opposition and (conserving his energy) in the Brendan Foot Supersite Pace Car.
AMI Round the Bays is on Sunday 26th February. The ISC Lenco Half Marathon starts at 8am and the 7km Fun Run/Walk starts at 9.20am for runners and 9.30am for walkers. For more information go to www.amiroundthebays.co.nz
