Newcomers invited to connect with Kiwi culture
ROTORUA 17.02.12: Migrants and newcomers to Rotorua have the opportunity to attend a free workshop next month to help them adjust to life in New Zealand.
Rotorua District Council (RDC) is hosting the 'Connecting with Kiwi Culture' event on 9 March from 8.45am to 3.30pm at Rotorua Arts Village.
RDC Settlement Support coordinator Heather McAllister says the workshop is ideal for newcomers who are considering their options in New Zealand for 2012.
"New Zealand can be quite different to what people are used to at home, even for those who come from an English-speaking country. The 'Connecting with Kiwi Culture' workshop can help migrants learn how things are done around here.
“They’ll also be provided with a resource pack full of local information and tips to make their move to New Zealand a success.”
Topics will include:
• How is New Zealand Different?
• Stages of Culture Shock & Change
• Creating a New Life
• Networking
• Keys to Success
• Using Your Skills
• Values & Goals for the Future.
Workshop registrations are limited to 16 people so anyone wishing to attend should contact Heather McAllister on (07) 351 7054 or email ssnzrotorua@rdc.govt.nz without delay.
