Annual Summer Fun Run And Walk
Media Release February 2012
BOTANY TOWN CENTRE HOSTS ANNUAL
SUMMER FUN RUN AND WALK
In a summer of only sporadic sunshine, there aren’t many opportunities left for families to be active outside before the autumn leaves begin to fall. The annual Botany Town Centre Summer Fun Run and Walk on Sunday 12 February promises to be bigger and better than ever. The event is for people of all ages and abilities, who are encouraged to take part and enjoy the last of the summer rays while taking a step in a healthy direction.
The event, organised by First Tier, is staged over two distances (5-kilometre and 10-kilometre flat courses), so is suitable for the whole family. Prams are welcome.
Specsavers at Botany Town Centre is an event sponsor and is teaming up with its Pakuranga counterparts to enter a squad that will be adorned with helium balloons. Andy Willmott, owner of Specsavers Botany Town Centre, says that as well as being a fun day out for all, the Summer Fun Run and Walk is a great way for him and his staff to promote health and wellbeing in the community.
“Specsavers is thrilled to be the main sponsor of this event. Our company strives to base our values around supporting the community and this is a great way to get involved.
“The eyes are one of the most important parts of the body, and here at Specsavers we aim to raise awareness of optical health and overall wellbeing. The Botany Town Centre Summer Fun Run and Walk is the perfect way for the team to get involved and literally ‘walk the talk’.”
The event is going from strength to strength in its fourth year, says First Tier director Frank Clarke.
“The Botany Summer Fun Run and Walk is a great family event on the summer calendar, and participation numbers are increasing every year. Our aim is to make it one of Auckland’s premier fun run and walk events by creating an enjoyable day out for all ages and fitness levels.”
Botany Town Centre marketing manager Desiree Clark looks forward to the event every year. “We love hosting this annual event and with the fantastic prizes on offer it’s sure to be a day the whole family can enjoy.”
Among the prizes up for grabs is a 42” Panasonic TV, Hoyts movie passes, Specsavers vouchers, Nike+ packages, and hundreds of dollars’ worth of Botany Town Centre gift cards.
“The winners in each category will be suitably recognised, but one of the best things about the Summer Fun Run and Walk is that everyone who enters has a chance of taking home a prize,” says Ms Clark.
The Botany Town Centre Summer Fun Run and Walk entry fee is either $25 or $30 per person, depending on the chosen distance. The event will start and finish at Botany Town Centre’s Town Square, and the start time is 9am.
