Changes to Tauranga bus services

Changes to Tauranga bus services
For immediate release: 3 February 2012
Some of Tauranga’s bus services are set to change from Monday 13 February and passengers are advised to check service details before travelling.

A number of the routes on the city’s bay hopper network will have changes to either their timetables or routes.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s Public Transport Sub-Committee Chair Councillor Doug Owens said the changes had come from looking at the performance of services and changing community needs.

“We review services each year with the aim of making the network more efficient and better accommodating our community’s needs,” he said. “Some new services are being added, others extended and some routes removed.”

“We’re pleased to announce that Route 2 will now serve the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic’s Windermere site and offer a direct, reliable and more frequent service to students and staff of the polytechnic. Similarly, the weekday frequency of route 60 will double from every 60 minutes to 30 minutes.

“Due to continued low use, two services (Route 45 Maungatapu, and Route 2’s extension into The Lakes subdivision) are being withdrawn. For most users either new or alternative routes are available.

All changes take effect on Monday 13 February. Passengers should check their routes and timetables before travelling.

Information on routes and timetables are on all the bay hopper buses, but the easiest way for people to find out about the specific changes is go to www.baybus.co.nz or call 0800 422 928.
