Wellington waterfront New Year's Eve cancelled

Wellington waterfront New Year's Eve cancelled

Organisers have decided to cancel tonight's New Year's Eve celebrations on Wellington's waterfront due to the bad weather.

Wellington City Council's City Events Manager, Lauren Fantham, says it is obviously disappointing to have to make the call - "but the forecast is not showing signs of much improvement this evening. We think it's better that everyone stays indoors, dry and happy tonight."

Music and celebrations were planned to start at 8pm at Frank Kitts Park and Odlin's Plaza on the waterfront and run, as a free (and alcohol-free) event until 12.15am.

A decision will be made later today as to whether a midnight fireworks display will go ahead.
