New Year’s Eve countdown depends on weather

New Year’s Eve countdown depends on weather

Organisers have their fingers crossed for a fine New Year’s Eve in Nelson, with a top night of musical entertainment planned for the Trafalgar Square Countdown.

Event organizer Huup Waagen says with more rain forecast for the region, a decision on the New Year’s Eve Countdown will be made at noon on Saturday.

“We would really hate to disappoint people and let down the musicians we have booked, but with so much electrical equipment safety is a big consideration.”

Huup says Nelsonians and visitors are catching on to this rocking good concert as the family friendly way to see in the New Year He says this year’s concert has four great acts and possibly a surprise or two!

The Peasants - national winners of the 2011 Smokefreerockquest. Young and energetic with a tight mature sound and one of the best female voices the SFRQ judges had ever heard.
Tommy & The Fallen Horses - a seamless blend of happy, high energy country, rock & reggae.
Master Pilot Sound System - a funked up hip-hop sound with a DJ and three MCs with original beats and sassy lyrics.
The Lizard Kings - played to packed houses in Nelson and beyond with the music of The Doors, brought alive with superb visual effects and that unmistakable Jim Morrison sound.

The Trafalgar Square Countdown is on Saturday 31 Dec, 8pm – 12.30am It is a free event presented by the Nelson City Council as a celebration for locals and an added attraction for visitors. As there is an alcohol ban in the CBD, drinking is only permitted on licensed premises.
