Assault

Wellington Police are investigating an assault on a woman at near the intersection of Adelaide Road and Riddiford Street, Wellington City.

The woman was near a bus stop on Adelaide Road opposite the VTNZ testing station. She was approached by a young man who attempted to take her shopping bag. She managed to hold onto her bag, until members of the public intervened and the man decamped.

A 23 year old man has been arrested and charged with assault with intent to rob.

Unfortunately the upset victim left the scene before police could speak to her.

Police would like to speak to the woman, who is described as an Asian, aged in her sixties, wearing a purple coloured top and dark pants. She was described as carrying a square shaped, white paper shopping bag.
