Grass roots community dinner on Xmas

How a grass roots community dinner on Xmas Day really comes together -in Upper Hutt .
For nearly 15 years volunteer Rimutaka Lions member Joe Cochrane spearheaded Room at the Inn arrrangements for the community dinner that enabled lonely people and families in Upper Hutt to get together for a Xmas Dinner and those needing meals on wheels to be supplied .But long serving Joe Cochrane died earlier this year and his son Andrew Cochrane is part of the catering team for the day . Rimutaka Lions Club member Lorraine Brooks has been coordinating the flood of volunteers who will help prepare the food on Xmas Eve , help serve it on Xmas Day and clean up on Boxing Day . Many individuals and some businesses such as Pak n Save Upper Hutt have provide help or supplies for the day alongside fundraising by the Rimutaka Lions Club . People are welcome from 11 am at the Hapai Club , 879 Fergusson Drive , Upper Hutt .The team will aslo deliver Meals on Wheels on Xmas Day from the same source.
