Update from Canterbury DBH following 5.8 quake
Following the 5.8 aftershock just before 2pm, the CDHB triggered emergency response procedures as a precautionary measure.
We are in the process of gathering reports from all CDHB facilities. Christchurch Hospital, the Princess Margaret Hospital and Hillmorton have all reported in as fully operational. Burwood is operating on emergency power.
There are no reports of damage so far and no injuries to staff or patients who were at our facilities at the time of the quake.
A small number (single figures)of earthquake-related casualties have been reported as having arrived at the Emergency Department at Christchurch Hospital, but there are no serious injuries.
Members of the public are advised that all health facilities are currently operating as normal at this time. People can access 24 hour non-emergency care through phoning their General Practice and are asked to please help keep the Emergency Department clear for genuine emergencies. The 111 service is operating normally for emergencies.
We will be back in touch once we have re-assessed following the 3.20pm shock.
