Auckland’s wharves go eco-friendly

Auckland’s wharves go eco-friendly

Clean and green initiatives have sailed into Auckland’s wharves, with new drinking fountains and recycling facilities being installed to ensure passengers can keep doing their bit for the environment.

The eco-friendly enterprises are being installed at Devonport, Birkenhead, Waiheke Island and downtown ferry terminals.

John Joachim, wharf facilities leader, says “We understand the importance of keeping our wharves a sustainable environment and we want to make sure passengers have the opportunity to recycle and refill their water bottles so we can help cut down on rubbish”.

“Most wharves now have new drinking fountains installed, which have taps at different heights for children, ensuring people can refill their bottle rather than chucking it away and buying a new one” says Mr Joachim.

“We’re also in the process of installing new recycling and rubbish facilities at each wharf so people can do their bit for the environment and recycle their plastic”.

“We want to keep our wharves smart, tidy, clean and green, and any eco-friendly initiative we can adopt is a positive!”
