Plan B4 U Party is
the slogan behind Waikato District Council’s latest drink
drive campaign to try to reduce alcohol related incidents in
the Waikato district.
The campaign was launched earlier this month in time for the Christmas and New Year period.
Waikato District Council, road safety co-ordinator, Megan Jolly said the aim of the campaign is to remind everyone intending to drink alcohol to plan before they go out how they will be getting home.
“The message is equally relevant for those hosting parties - make sure there is plenty of food and non-alcoholic drinks available, provide alternative means of getting people home if they have had too much to drink, or provide a place for mates to sleep over if needed,” she said.
Between 2006 and 2010 alcohol was a factor in 31 per cent of local road crashes in the Waikato district.
The Plan B4 U Party promotional material will be displayed in key businesses throughout the district, including licenced premises, cafes, and camp grounds. Surveys will also be carried out with locals asking them about their plans for hosting parties and for getting home safely after events.
The campaign will
focus predominantly on holiday spots in the district such as
Raglan and Port Waikato.
