New all-access playground for Long Bay
New all-access playground for Long Bay
Auckland kids are buzzing over the new all-access playground at Long Bay Regional Park.
The playground encourages children of all abilities to play together, and includes rubber mats for easy wheelchair access, a spacenet, swings and a seesaw. The popular flying fox has also been retained and refurbished.
The playground, which has reached the end of stage one of its redevelopment, is a partnership project between Auckland Council and Variety - The Children's Charity.
"This is a fantastic playground," says Councillor Sandra Coney, chair of the council's Parks, Recreation and Heritage Forum.
"We are committed to increasing the accessibility of our playgrounds for all children, regardless of their ability."
Long Bay Regional Park was chosen as the site for this playground due to the size of the site and the fact that is a popular and picturesque location near the coast.
The contribution from Variety -
The Children's Charity includes generous donations from the
Glenn Family Foundation, Trillian Trust, Wilson Home Trust
and the David Levene Foundation.
"The Variety Playground
at Long Bay is our second all-inclusive development with
Auckland Council and we are thrilled to be working with them
again," says Lorraine Taylor, CEO of Variety - The
Children's
Charity.
