Community Christmas tree adds to festive atmosphere

Community Christmas tree adds to festive atmosphere

The spirit of Christmas is coming to the cenotaph this weekend with a giant tree that the community of Taupō is being invited to help decorate.

Following the Santa Parade on Saturday 3rd December the Taupō community are invited to help decorate the huge pine tree that will be located in front of the Great Lake Centre for the weeks leading up until Christmas Day. Come into town, watch the parade and then join us at the cenotaph for more fun and activities. Face painting and a bouncy castle will help to entertain the kids and add to the excitement that the Christmas Parade brings.

“I’ve been thinking for months how our town needs a giant Christmas tree and wondered how I was going to make it happen.” said Towncentre Taupō’s General Manager, Traceylee Hooton “When the team from New Zealand Forest Managers offered a real tree, I jumped at the opportunity.”

Standing at least 5 metres high, the live pine tree will be brought into town ready to be decorated on Saturday. Children, families, community groups are all being encouraged to make decorations and bring them down to be added.
