Hutt Valley hosts robotics comp for the first time
Robots are set to take over the Naenae Computer Clubhouse when it hosts the Vex Robotics Wellington Regional Competition at the Dowse Art Museum for the first time on Saturday 3 December, 9am to 5pm.
School teams will take part in the competition by bringing robots they have designed to battle against others, accumulating points by performing tasks and scoring goals.
Hosting the regionals is part of the Clubhouse's role as the home of Vex Robotics in the Wellington region and Coordinator Erica Herron says the event provides exciting opportunities for local young people.
"The Hutt Valley is known for its wealth of science and technology professionals and we want to continue this legacy by encouraging young people to learn about robotics and build skills in science, technology, engineering and maths while having fun.
"We have partnered with Kiwibots NZ and Massey University to make this event possible and we expect it to be the first of many opportunities for local young people to get their hands on advanced robotic technology at the Clubhouse.
"Next year the Clubhouse will enter its own team and be a formidable competitor after having such 'high tech' resources on hand," she says.
Deputy Mayor David Bassett will open the event at 10am.
