Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Wairarapa
Just after
3:30pm this afternoon the Life Flight Trust responded to a
motorcyclist who was seriously injured in the Wairarapa.
Life Flight responded with a Wellington Free Ambulance (WFA) Paramedic on board the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
The 53year old Upper Hutt man was travelling on Bidwells Cutting Road, outside of Greytown, when he appears to have lost control on a bend. He hit a barrier on the side of the road and came off the bike.
On the helicopter's arrival the patient was being treated by Wairarapa Ambulance staff.
He was suffering from major leg injuries, including both femurs appearing broken.
"One of the major problems with femur fractures is the potential loss of large amounts of blood" says Dave Greenberg, Life Flight Crewman. "When we arrived at Wellington Hospital a large trauma team was waiting, including surgeons who will be operating on him shortly".
The patient was flown to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department in a serious condition. He is currently being treated in the Emergency Department but is expected to go to theatre shortly.
