68 year old winched from Kapiti Island after collapsing


11/11/2011 1430 PM

At 1125 this morning Life Flight Trust responded to Kapiti Island for a call to a woman who collapsed while walking on Kapiti Island.

Life Flight responded to Kapiti Island with two Wellington Free Ambulance (WFA) Paramedics on board the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

The 68 year old Kapiti woman was walking with serveral others when she collapsed to the ground. A member of her walking group called 111 and walked back to a clear area to signal the helicopter while other members of the group, including her husband, helped to revive her.

One of the paramedics was winched to the scene and after a quick assessment they were both winched back into the helicopter.

The patient was flown to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where she is being further assessed. Her condition is not believed to be life threatening.
