TV stars join ‘Angels for Animals’ Street Appeal

The annual SPCA Auckland ‘Angels for Animals’ street appeal will see more than 1100 volunteer collectors – including TV stars – spread out across the Super City from 8am to 6pm on 11, 12, and 13 November from Warkworth to Tuakau, and from the Waitakeres to Waiheke Island.

Emmett Skilton (‘Axl’ from Almighty Johnsons) and Amelia Reid (‘Bella Cooper’ from Shortland Street) will be helping out by rattling buckets at the intersection of Queen St and Quay St from 7.30am to 8.30am on the Friday.

And they won’t be alone – members of the Newfoundland Club will be there with 11 of their massive shaggy dogs. Also on the spot will be Bob Kerridge, SPCA Auckland’s Executive Director.

“It’s our biggest fundraising event and we really pull out all the stops to attract as much of Auckland’s spare change as we can,” says Mr Kerridge.

“We raised $130,000 last year and this year we hope to better that figure. The money is used to rescue, treat, house, and rehabilitate about 18,000 abandoned and abused animals every year so every little bit really helps.

“We know times are tough but we ask Aucklanders to open their hearts and wallets for the most vulnerable members of our society: animals who can’t speak for themselves but desperately need our help.”

People who miss the collectors can donate online at www.spca.org.nz.
