Berm mowing policy out for consultation
A draft Berm Mowing Policy outlining maintenance responsibility and standardising the levels of service offered throughout the district is now available to township committees and the public for consultation.
A draft policy was put to the Selwyn District Council this week and councillors agreed it should go out for consultation.
In the report to Council it was noted that nearly everybody in the Selwyn District maintains the berms adjacent to their property. This is generally standard across New Zealand. But some berms have been mown by Council contractors due to historical arrangements.
Asset Administrator Reserves Annette Littlejohn says the policy has been drafted to address this inequity as berm mowing is funded from general rates.
“The new policy has been drafted to standardise our approach to berm mowing so it’s fair across the district both currently and for the future We’ve tried to identify criteria to indicate when it’s appropriate that Council undertakes berm mowing, the policy also addresses who is responsible for repair of damage to berms,” Ms Littlejohn says
The policy will be sent to the
district’s township committees and will be available for
people to read through the Council website – www.selwyn.govt.nz
