Sam Johnson receives Humanitarian Award from Art of Living Foundation

Art of Living Foundation New Zealand has chosen Sam Johnson as the recipient of its inaugural Humanitarian Award. Sam was chosen for his contribution to the Christchurch community in setting up the Student Volunteer Army after the 4 September 2010 and 22 February 2011 earthquakes.
AOL NZ president Mrs Rashmi Bhatia will present the award at a public ceremony open to all. A short DVD showcasing the work of the Foundation will follow, and the opportunity to chat with Sam over refreshments.

Free de-stress courses in
Canterbury
For the past year, the Art of Living
Foundation has provided free ‘De–Stress’ courses
(usually $250) to Cantabrians suffering as a result of the
region’s earthquakes. The yoga based breathing techniques
taught on the course help to overcome stress, anxiety and
depression, and have been effective in relieving stress
symptoms following events such as 9/11, the December 2004
tsunami and 2005’s Hurricane Katrina.

This year more than 40,000 people gathered in Berlin to celebrate the Foundation’s 30th anniversary. To mark the anniversary, the Art of Living organisation in each country has been asked to name a recipient for the inaugural Art of Living Humanitarian Award.
