First Interview With Taito Phillip Field After His Release From Prison – Tonight On Native Affairs

Maori Television’s NATIVE AFFAIRS has secured the first interview with disgraced former Labour MP Taito Phillip Field tonight.

Field was released from prison today after serving the minimum one third of his six-year sentence for bribery and corruption charges.

In 2009, Field was jailed for six years after being convicted by jury in the High Court at Auckland of 11 charges of bribery and corruption as an MP, and 15 charges of perverting the course of justice.

NATIVE AFFAIRS anchor Julian Wilcox spoke to Field, and the interview is screening tonight at 8.30pm.

The prime-time current affairs programme last week confirmed its place as a finalist in this year’s AFTAs (previously Qantas Media Awards) for Best Current Affairs, the third time in five years.

Producer Colin McRae says the NATIVE AFFAIRS team take pride in being able to continuously provide quality coverage and interviews on highly topical issues for its viewers.

“Field’s case was highly topical in the media and the indigenous and Pacific communities in Aotearoa and, as a Maori current affairs programme, NATIVE AFFAIRS is providing a platform to voice what was a major story in this community.”
