Special Screenings of Wild In The Streets During Rugby World Cup Final Weekend
Feature film about the oldest sports rivalry on Earth will play The Paramount on Friday October 21st at 7pm and Saturday October 22nd at 5.15pm
Los Angeles, California – Wild In The Streets, a new feature film that United States National Public Radio calls "utterly captivating", is premiering in New Zealand on October 7th in Tauranga. To mark the event, the filmmakers have organized a special benefit screening for the Tauranga Safe City organization.
The Sean Bean narrated documentary is about an ancient game called Shrovetide Football that is the grandfather of rugby, soccer and American football. It’s the pride of the townspeople in Ashbourne, England, wilder than Running With the Bulls in Pamplona and makes grown men cry. Annual bedlam ensues between two teams from opposite sides of the river. The Up'ards from the North and the Down'ards from the South gather in their thousands to get a 4 pound ball to one of 2 goals that lay 3 miles apart. The field of play . . .the town itself. There is no referee and few rules. For the past 10 years the "posh" Up'ards have dominated every contest. As the "dirty" Down'ards prepare for revenge, both teams will have to fight an additional battle; modern society.
