Bayfair Shopping Centre Hosts Health, Fitness And Fun Expo
With the warmer months fast approaching, Bayfair Shopping Centre is inviting shoppers to learn ways in which to adopt a healthier lifestyle by visiting a Health, Fitness and Fun event in-centre, on today until to Sunday 2 October.
This event aims to give the local community the opportunity to gain preliminary access to number of health and fitness services.
Bayfair marketing manager Nina Rivett says, “Hosting points of interest like this enables shoppers to enter a familiar environment like Bayfair and learn more about some of the group fitness activities and health services that are available in their local community.”
As part of the event, Bayfair will introduce new smoke free zones to the centre, including all pavements, entranceways and courtyards.
“We have received feedback from our shoppers regarding smoking around certain parts of the centre, and we are excited to be able to provide the community, shoppers and staff with an environment which will be cleaner and safer, making their Bayfair experience healthier and more enjoyable,” says Ms Rivett.
Bayfair will also be lending its support for those shoppers and staff members who want to consider going smoke free. Nga Kakano Foundation, the largest smoking cessation provider in the Eastern and Western Bay of Plenty, will be in-centre today, Friday 30 September, from 10am to 3pm (outside Kmart) to provide assistance and help those who wish to quit smoking.
The Heart Foundation will be in-centre connecting with shoppers and providing information that will help them to make healthy heart choices, with particular emphasis on breakfast and lunchbox ideas. This event also provides an opportunity for the Heart Foundation to support Bayfair in its initiatives to promote smoke free environments.
“Smoking is the single biggest risk factor contributing to cardiovascular disease,” says Heart Foundation heart health advocate Sandy Ritchie. “The Heart Foundation congratulates and strongly supports Bayfair in taking the initiative to extend its smoke free zones. Quit smoking support will be available at the expo and this, combined with the extended smoke free zones and the Heart Foundation’s heart risk information, provides a very strong smoke free message to the community.”
Additional Expo Activity
• Nutritional Advice and Supermarket Food Labelling Tours – Experienced dietician Siobhan Miller of Nutrition Solutions will be offering advice and support to people who want to know more about good nutrition. Plus, if shoppers would like to attend a supermarket food labelling tour with Siobhan, they can register their interest by phoning the Bayfair Information Desk on 07 572 0100. Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
• Professional Fitness Advice – Baywave’s Dylan Guitink and Tim Pritchard will be available to answer shoppers’ questions and advise on how to get the best results from using a rowing machine and exercycle.
• Fun, Fitness Group Activities – Body Attack, Body Pump, Body Jam, Sh’Bam, Body Vive, Body Balance and CX Worx demonstrations will show shoppers some of the fun ways to get fit this summer.
• Light Up Your World – Each day during the event, between 11am and 5pm, shoppers can pitch their stamina against the ‘Trustpower Exercycle.’ Simply donate a gold coin to the Heart Foundation, jump on the exercycle and see how long it takes to light up a series of light bulbs. The person that can keep to bulbs lit for the longest wins.
• Tick All The Right Boxes To Win – Ever wondered what a family’s shopping list that ‘ticks’ all of the healthy heart boxes would cost? By donating a gold coin to the Heart Foundation, shoppers can see exactly what is included in the shopping trolley outside Kmart and guess its value. The person with the closest entry value will win the trolley’s contents.
