‘Pianos in the Wild!’ arts event returns to Rotorua CBD

ROTORUA 19.09.11: The popular ‘Pianos in the Wild!’ arts event is back and with thousands of visitors descending on Rotorua over the next few weeks the community may be fortunate enough to hear more than a tune or two in the CBD.

The project allows people to sit down and play pianos at various city locations as part of the council’s public arts collaboration with local businessman and Pheasant Plucker owner Ivan Purvis.

RDC community arts officer Kiri Jarden says due to previous years’ pianos becoming the worse for wear by the end of the project, this year’s instruments come complete with decorative covering to keep them protected from the elements.

“Locals and visitors are welcome to pull back the covers and run their fingers over the keys.

“You don’t have to have the talent of Mozart to participate. This is a really fun project which in the past has encouraged spontaneous sing-alongs, dancing and numerous versions of ‘Chopsticks’."

For more information visit the www.pianosinthewild.co.nz website where you can also leave your thoughts on the project.
