Hospital Visit Ends In $2.8 Million Lotto Win
A West Auckland man plans to check out available Rugby World Cup tickets after claiming his $2,833,333 Lotto Powerball
win from the weekend.
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, found out that he had a big winning ticket, after popping into a supermarket
to buy bread after visiting a close family member in hospital.
“We could not believe our eyes, and originally I thought it was pretty choice that I had won $2,833. The Lotto person
had to tell me I had actually won a lot more than that!
“Visiting time was over at the hospital, but we sneaked back in to share our good news,” he said.
The man, who is a regular Lotto player, now plans to put most of the money away in the bank for a few months, in order
to properly plan his next steps.
But a couple of items will be ticked off their family wish list in the near future.
“We have not been able to afford Rugby World Cup tickets until now, so I will be visiting the website and checking out
what games are still available. I am an AB supporter from way back, so would be great to see them play.
“We also have always wanted to take the kids on a fantastic family holiday to Australia and visit the theme parks. So
that will be next on the list,” he said.
The winning ticket was sold at New World New Lynn in Auckland. It shared the First Division Lotto Powerball prize with a
ticket bought in Martinborough. The winner won $2,500,000 from Powerball and a $333,333 share of Lotto First Division.
