Names cast in bricks form historic trail
Sponsored bricks being laid on the Dowse Community Pathway will grow into a story of Lower Hutt’s history believes former Hutt Valley Rotary District Governor Judy Bain.
“We will have a trail of civic leaders, businesses, individual families, service clubs, schools, and sporting organisations who are all connected with our daily lives here in Lower Hutt,” she said.
Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace was on hand at the Dowse to help lay bricks commemorating the former mayors of Lower Hutt.
“The sponsored bricks will provide an opportunity for an enduring archive that in years to come will be a source of historical interest,” he said.
Sponsored bricks are being sold at $100 each and profits after the engraving will go to the Dowse Foundation and Hutt Valley Rotary’s community programme.
President of Hutt Valley Rotary, Christine Oldham, said her club was very active in the community including support for youth projects.
“The Dowse Community Pathway provides an ideal opportunity to support community projects,” she said.
