Safety conscious engineering company wins award
In an industry where safety is crucial, a north Auckland engineering company is setting the standard for others to follow.
Babcock Fitzroy Ltd (BFL) won the ACC Excellence in Workplace Safety Award at the 2011 Westpac Auckland North Business Awards swaying judges with its “impressive entry”.
Convenor of Judges, Matthew Bellingham was impressed by the company’s ability to build on an already excellent health and safety system by taking it to a higher level.
“In an environment where attention to detail is critical, Babcock ticks all of the boxes,” says Matt Bellingham.
“They are now sufficiently confident in their systems and staff engagement that they have joined the Accredited Employers Scheme, taking greater financial and practical responsibility for workplace accidents. This surpasses the benchmark of tertiary qualification. The excellent results are visible through a drop in the cost of accidents.”
As one of New Zealand's leading integrated mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering facilities, Babcock Fitzroy supplies products and services to a variety of industries around the world, specialising in ship maintenance and repair.
Based in Devonport, Babcock’s main customer is the Navy and it has held a contract for the management of the dockyard since 2004.
“BFL is delighted to participate in the Westpac Auckland North Business Awards 2011 and support the efforts of Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development in promoting business on the North Shore. While today brings a global economy it is fundamental to our business that we do good business at home, delivering to our customers and supporting our suppliers,” says Managing Director, Mike Wardlaw.
Manager Business Development – North for Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development, Ngaio Merrick, is impressed by Babcock Fitzroy’s focus on safety.
“Employee and client safety is of utmost importance in today’s business world. Babcock Fitzroy is a deserving winner of this award,” says Ms Merrick.
The annual Westpac Auckland North Business Awards celebrates excellence in the local business community and honours successful companies across 12 awards categories.
