Kathmandu Riverrun Trail Series ready for Race One
LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand (5 September 2011) – The arrival of spring also heralds the start of the Kathmandu Riverrun
Trail Series which this year will feature four trail runs over the Lake Wanaka region’s spectacular lake and riverside
trails.
The opening event will take place on Saturday 1 October on the Hawea River Track and offers a 5km, 10 km and half
marathon options. Race director Victoria Murray-Orr believes it is a great time to kick-start the summer training.
“The first race will be great test of fitness coming out of the winter and a good kick start for training for the larger
events during the summer such as the Point3 and Challenge Wanaka,” she said. “This series is a great way to compete on
the outstanding tracks and trails we have here in Wanaka. You can be as competitive as you like and there’s always a
good cross section of ages and abilities taking part.
The prize pool includes cash prizes for place getters as well as a wide variety of spot prizes. In addition, all
competitors will receive two free Runners World magazines and be in the draw to win subscriptions.
The Kathmandu Riverrun Series aims to encourage people to stay fit and healthy throughout the year and to set personal
goals, as well as enjoy the region’s trails. The John Pawson Trophy is awarded to the fastest male and female
competitors over the whole series.
The Riverrun Trail Series begins 1 October. Race two on the 18 February 2012 is a 14.1km run from Albert Town to Luggate
on the Clutha River Track. Race three is on the 14 April from Glendhu Bay to Wanaka’s Roy’s Bay via the Damper Bay and
Waterfall Creek Track, 14.3km, with race four taking place on 19 May 2012 on the Outlet Track, approximately 12km.
