New Group Manager for Regional Council
Iain Maxwell will be taking the role of Group Manager Resource Management at Hawke's Bay Regional Council.
Iain is well-known in Hawke's Bay through his time as regional manager of Hawke's Bay Fish & Game and in his current capacity as senior freshwater ecologist at the Cawthron Institute, where he is currently
providing expertise for projects in the Hawke's Bay.
He takes over from Darryl Lew, who left last month to take up a role as Director of the Environment in Abu Dhabi.
The Regional Council's Chief Executive Andrew Newman says Iain brings a wealth of knowledge to the technical and
planning role of the Council, as well a very strong understanding of the rivers and environment in the region.
"I have been very impressed with Iain's understanding of the challenges the Council and the region faces, and his proven
ability to work constructively with many parties to generate solutions. I think Iain will be a very good fit for this
organisation," he said.
Iain will join Hawke's Bay Regional Council on 7 November as he has a strong commitment to completing some of his work
with the Cawthron.
At the Cawthron Institute he is part of team researching the effect of human activities on coastal and freshwater
resources in a range of large and nationally significant projects. This includes investigation work for regional
councils, energy sector, private companies, iwi organisations and Ministry of Science and Innovation, and providing
technical support to the new Environment Protection Agency.
