Selwyn District goes mobile
The Selwyn District Council this week launched a mobile phone version of the Council website, http://m.selwyn.govt.nz.
Council webmaster Deb Webb says modern mobile phones allow for quicker and easier access to specific information.
“Our mobile site provides a new channel for members of the public to use, especially during any emergency situations,”
she says.
Features included on the mobile site version include an events calendar, civil defence information, ‘What’s Hot’
listings, tourist information, locations and contact details for Selwyn Libraries, ‘BizSearch’ for finding a business in
Selwyn, rubbish & recycling collection information, and animal control information.
“Mobile internet access is globally on the rise, and we know that access from mobile devices will soon overtake internet
access from computers. The Council’s site receives more than 100 hits a month from mobile users, so we have created a
new design that puts together the information mobile users want.”
She believes the BizSearch function will be really handy for people who need goods and services. It allows smart phone
users to search hundreds of Selwyn businesses, and call them directly from the listing.
Under “Events”, residents and visitors can instantly call up the activities people have listed on the Council’s events
calendar.
