A Matriarch wins Gold for Ti Point Winery
Ti Point Winemaker Tracy Haslam is feeling rather proud of her 2010 Ti Point One Matriarch Matakana Coast Syrah, which has just won a Gold medal at the recent International Wine Awards. The winery also received five bronze medals.
The 2010 One Matriarch Matakana Coast Syrah embodies what Haslam believes she can achieve when making a great wine with exceptional fruit. The wine is also really poignant for Haslam being dedicated to her grandmother Nan, an inspirational woman who has been instrumental in the growth and development of the small vineyard situated on the Matakana Coast of the North Island.
“This Syrah represents the epitome of what I can achieve from my tiny Ti Point Vineyard, it is even more exciting when judged as one of the best amongst its peers,” says Haslam.
Grapes for the 2010 One Matriarch were sourced from the Ti Point Vineyard, an area not traditionally known for Syrah grapes.
“Traditionally Syrah grapes come from the Hawkes Bay, however this wine has shown me we can produce exceptional quality Syrah grapes in the Matakana region; a really exciting development which I can’t wait to see harvest and produce more great wine,” says Haslam.
The Gold medal winner is now eligible for The Champions List which will be announced at the Awards Dinner at the Crowne Plaza on Saturday 3rd September.
2010 Ti Point One Matriarch Matakana Coast Syrah is available in selected premium wine outlets RRP $44.99
Background
Tracy established Ti Point Winery in 1999; along with her mother Jan and Grandmother Eileen they converted part of the family land at Ti Point to vineyard. The running of the vineyard is a family affair, although today they do employ a vineyard manager to assist them. At harvest time though it's not uncommon to see four generations with Tracy's daughter Ruby helping Nan on the rider mower!
