RWC FanZone to be family-friendly
Posted On: Tuesday, 30 August 2011
Live music, a giant video screen, competitions and a Zumba dance session will be features of Hamilton’s family-friendly Rugby World Cup FanZone.
The FanZone, comprising parts of Hood Street and Alexandra Street in Hamilton’s central business district, will be open for six nights during Rugby World Cup 2011 – including the night of the Tournament Final.
Waikato bands The Monroes, Dick Dynamite and the Doppelgangers, Tasty Brown and Four Tonne Fiasco are all booked to perform in the FanZone, while ANZ are sponsoring a competition to find Waikato’s Biggest Rugby Fan.
The FanZone will be alcohol-free to encourage a safe and family-friendly atmosphere.
Hamilton’s Rugby World Cup 2011 Ambassador Councillor Peter Bos said: “The operation of our FanZone coincides with the three matches at Waikato Stadium, as well as two of the most anticipated pool matches – Australia vs Ireland on 17 September, and New Zealand vs France on 24 September. Watching matches in the FanZone should provide some lasting memories for the region’s Rugby fans.”
FanZone will operate on 16 September (6pm-midnight), 17 September (4pm-midnight), 18 September (1.30pm-midnight), 24 September (4pm-midnight), 2 October (1.30pm-midnight) and 23 October ( 7pm-midnight).
