Safety in the City Awards
Whether they're lifesavers, heroes or just make an effort day-in day-out to help keep their fellow citizens safe, the Wellingtonians who make a difference will be honoured in a special ceremony next week.
The seventh annual Wellington Safety in the City Awards will be held 5.30pm Tuesday September 6 at the Wellington City Council Chambers.

Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown will be joined by Detective Inspector Stephen Vaughan, Wellington Police Acting Area Commander, to present the awards. The event will be hosted by Council's Director of Citizen Engagement Wendy Walker.
Seventeen awards will be presented to Wellingtonians from all over the city They include a woman who stepped in to save a neighbour from a knife attack, people involved with the rescue of commuters on the sinking East by West Ferry and a volunteer who initiated a programme to reduce alcohol-related harm.
Details for the award recipients are available on request for media, embargoed to the awards ceremony Tuesday September 6.
Last year's winners included the rescue chopper crew who helped in the ANZAC day helicopter crash, some surfers who tried to save a friend in trouble, an off duty doctor who saved a man having a heart attack, a child who warned of a tsunami and victim support workers who help people every day.
