Body found near Napier
Police have recovered a body from land in a rural area north of Napier that may be linked to the disappearance of Hastings man Johnny Wright.
The area the body was recovered from was accessible to the public.
Mr Wright has been missing for some weeks and was last seen at a Hastings house last month. Police have made several public appeals for information about his whereabouts.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave de Lange says police received information about an area of land on Waipunga Rd in Eskdale, north of Napier.
The area was cordoned off and examined by Police and ESR staff at the weekend.
"A number of police staff working on the disappearance of Mr Wright worked at the scene over the weekend. At this stage it is unknown if the body is Mr Wright," Mr de Lange said.
"We need to await the result of a post-mortem examination, forensic testing and formal identification process before identifying the body and establishing the cause of death. This may take several days."
There have been no arrests in relation to the disappearance of Mr Wright and police are continuing to seek information about his disappearance.
