HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE
29 August 2011
Festive Hutt Night Market Coming Soon
Lower Hutt’s High Street will be the venue for a new night market being launched in October of this year.
The Hutt Night Market will feature entertainment by local artists, boutique shopping, live performers, exotic food, and
stalls with arts, crafts and jewellery.
“The night market will become a premiere festive destination for our community,” said Lower Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace.
The Hutt Night Market is planned to open at 4pm through to 9pm and, regardless of weather, will operate every Thursday
once it starts in October.
“The Hutt Night Market in High Street will help revitalise the heart of the Hutt making it vibrant and attractive to
retailers and residents.
Mayor Wallace said market goers, including families, will be able to enjoy an evening of entertainment with proposed
boutique shopping and performances from the best local artists. A total of 80 stalls are planned and will offer food,
artisan products and a wide range of products including jewellery, artworks and crafts.
The Hutt City Council has driven the night market initiative and recently appointed James Liu, who runs the highly
successful Saturday Riverbank Market, to operate the night market. Stallholders will have gazebos, lighting and power
provided.
"The High Street market is close to the Westfield shopping mall and will attract exceptional foot traffic which will
help promote business opportunities while providing a fun and enjoyable experience for shoppers,” said Mayor Wallace.
